- Abstract
- A S-band pulsed klystron with a greater than 65-MW output power has been developed in house for use in RF (radio-frequency) linear accelerators, such as the PLS (Pohang Light Source) linear accelerator [1-3]. The developed klystron successfully generated 66 and 80 MW at the pulse widths of 3.4 and 1 mu s, respectively. The electrical design was done using various computer codes, including FCI, EGUN, SUPERFISH/POISSON, ANSYS, and HFSS. Higher coupling between the electron beam and the output cavity was obtained by improving the electron beam-optics, and the efficiency was several percent higher than that for existing klystrons (Toshiba E3712s). In this article, we will report on the design, fabrication, processing, and test procedures.
