Abstract
Optical properties of PbS QDs embedded inside glass matrix were investigated for the potential application towards the fiber-optic amplifiers. Controllability of PbS QDs formation was examined through heat-treatment and modification of host glass composition. Emission within 1-2 mu m wavelength range was obtained when the sizes of PbS QDs were tuned by heat-treatment. Modification of host glass composition improved the ability to control the sizes of QDs. Glasses doped with PbS QDs can provide potentials as robust materials for universal fiber-optic amplifiers.
