- Abstract
- This paper presents a waveform for driving an AC plasma display panel (PDP). The proposed twin reset (TR) waveform can drive AC PDP at a significantly reduced scan time, while keeping a good contrast ratio. It uses two similar reset waveforms for the scan and common electrodes to form the desired charge states: two identical set-up ramps to form the desired charge states and two different set-down ramps to speed up the address and sustain discharges. The measured dark luminance with the twelve-reset selective-write method is 0.23 cd/m(2) for the TR waveform, while it is 0.67 cd/m(2) for a typical drive waveform. The achieved contrast ratio is similar to 2470:1. The jitters on the address discharge are similar to 1.0 mus under reasonable operation conditions. The measured margins on the sustain voltage with a 1.2 mus scan pulse show that the TR waveform is suitable for displaying high quality pictures. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
