- Abstract
- This paper presents a precision online model for the prediction of the roll force and roll power in a round-oval (or oval-round) pass rolling sequence, which is most commonly employed in rod and wire mills. The approach uses the concept of ideal rolling, to reduce the number of the dimensionless parameters with which the model is constructed. The prediction accuracy of the proposed model is examined through comparison with the predictions from a finite element model. The prediction accuracy is also examined through comparison with measurements made in POSCO No. 3 wire and rod mill.
