- Abstract
- This paper proposes a broadband antenna-on-display (AoD) concept that can be integrated into the transparent region of the display panel. To enable broadband behavior while being in close proximity to the ground plane, the proposed AoD is designed as a leaky-wave antenna (LWA). The proposed transparent LWA consists of an array of composite right/left-handed (CRLH) structures. The transparency of the CRLH unit cell is realized using metal mesh conductive film. To improve the radiation efficiency, a CRLH unit cell that can reduce the shunt inductor by half is used. The fast wave region of the proposed unit cell obtained through the simulation is 3.4 to 6.5 GHz, which is consistent with the impedance bandwidth of the proposed broadband AoD. The measured realized gain of an LWA consisting of 13 unit cells is 1.83 dBi at 6 GHz.
