Revealing Social Issues using National Petition Data in Korea

Abstract

As the structure of society becomes more complicated, it becomes more and more difficult to understand public opinion and social issues. The National Petition is a service created by the government of Korea to listen to the public opinion, and contains a number of social issues. By analyzing the national petition data using topic model, i seek social issues and identify the topic structure in the National Petition. First, LDA topic model was used to identify the topic structure in the National Petition and i compared it with the category structure of the National Petition. Next, i devised a methodology to measure the importance of documents within each topic through document and keyword frequency, and found a notable document on the National Petition.
