Telcos (Telecommunication companies) are facing a crisis. The crisis contains the unfavorable situations such as the debate about the network neutrality and the aggravation of the profitability due to a drop in ARPU. South Korea's Telcos are aware of the crisisen_US
dc.description.abstractthey have made various attempts to escape from it. In this study, a new mobile service platform model for South Korea's Telcos is proposed for their competitiveness to be enhanced. It is established on the basis of the result of analysis on the major global Telcos' business cases in terms of the platform strategy (Andrei Hagju et al., 2008) and the mobile service platform model (Ballon et al., 2008). The result of the analysis on the 9 global leading Telcos' business cases is categorized in three types, which are 1) building one’s own platform, 2) participation in other platforms, 3) strengthening one’s own platform existing. The analysis of the cases leads to three implications. First, the switching barrier should be strengthened to gain customers. Second, the ecosystem should be established to reinforce one’s own platform. Third, they should focus more on the role as Service Enabler. Considered with the implications and the transition from 3G to 4G of mobile technology, the role as a Service Aggregator has been added to the new mobile service platform model for South Korea's Telcos. However, the study has limitation that the analysis on the business cases was conducted in a qualitative way only and the new mobile service platform model for South Korea's Telcos is based on theoritical background. Thus, the future study requires quantitative analyses on the business cases and the verification of the feasibility of the new platform model.en_US
