Abstract
Since turbo-machine has complex flow characteristics which are caused by an adverse pressure gradient and high speed rotating motion, an elaborate turbulence model is needed to predict this turbulent flow field accurately. Some turbulence models such as algebraic and 2-equation eddy viscosity model have been used in the in-house RANS code T-Flow, but it is difficult to obtain good result for several complex flow with these turbulence models, In this study, Durbin’s v2-f turbulence model, the 4-equation turbulence model, which has been known for better prediction for several flow conditions with severe separation is applied to T-Flow. It was validated for simple cases such as channel and compressor cascade flow and its applicability to a turbomachinery was shown by analyzing internal flow of UTRC compressor. The pressure coefficient profile along the blade surfaces was compared with Wilcox’s original k-omega turbulence model and qualitative characteristics such as turbulent viscosity ratio and flow field was studied. As a result, the v2-f turbulence model shows better performance than the k-omega turbulence model.
