Abstract Despite of being encouraged by the quantitative growth in the global construction market, our construction companies have suffered from the recent large scale of losses in the known overseas projects and found themselves standing in a nutcracker position between developed and developing companies. In the plant project market the number of tenders with a condition of project financing is increasing every year. In order to cope with this situation, it is necessary to stand in a leading-edge position equipped with financing capabilities as well as competing technologies and management skills. Thus, the purpose of this study is to search and analyze the cases of financed or troubled overseas projects and propose the directions for the suitable financing methodologies and appropriate trouble-shooting solutions in considerably various ways, i.e., how to develop financing packages with favorable conditions, install branch offices in the emerging market in cooperation with a well-networked trading company, and run a dedicated team for timely recruiting skilled manpower, etc. It is also important to get a governmental support by making the economic cooperation agency increase their role in encouraging private financial institutions to provide favorable project financing, etc. not to repeat the same failure with a huge magnitude of risk caused by financial and political reasons. Also the construction companies have to prepare suitable mitigation measures for all risks including country risk, currency risk, etc. and to enhance management capacity for the corporate and projects in this changing project environment.
