Abstract
This thesis discusses an iterative channel estimation scheme based on linear interpolation for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) over amplify-and-forward (AF) relaying channels. When the source-relay and relay-destination channels are concatenated in AF protocols, the maximum excess delay of concatenated channel becomes larger than that of the source-relay or relay-destination channel. To estimate the concatenated channel, the system needs more pilot symbols, which reduces the spectral efficiency in case of linear interpolation channel estimation. The proposed scheme performs symbol-by-symbol interpolation, data detection, and channel estimation iteratively to mitigate the effects of the increased delay spread, without additional pilot symbols. Simulation results show that the proposed system improves the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of AF-based cooperation, compared with conventional linear interpolation techniques.
