- In this study, dynamic behavior of semi-submersible floating offshore wind turbine was analyzed. This model consists of the 5-megawatt(MW) Upwind wind turbine and its floating platform. Specification of the structures are chosen from the OC4 (Offshore Code Comparison Collaboration Continuation) project under “IEA Wind Annex XXX-subtake 2”. Some design load cases including the external environmental conditions are investigated. Through this work, the coupled dynamics of wind inflow, aero and hydrodynamic factor are determined using the aero-hydro-servo-elastic simulation tool for the wind turbine. In addition, simulation results are compared with both those of other institute’s and test data using a 1/50th scale model for code-to-experiment validation. It is shown that the platform motion is the most significant factor for considering the floating platform stability. Also wind and wave misalignment made some noticeable difference in the platform dynamics, loads of the blade root and tower. The results will help to understand the effect of each environmental factors for the floating wind turbine system.
