We examined phytoplankton species’ response to elevated pCO2 and temperature in controlled 33-day mesocosm experiment in 2011. The experimental location is south coast of Korea. Nine enclosures were filled with 1,500 L of seawater and had pCO2 conditions ranging from 426 ppm to 940 ppm. Three of enclosures were set for conditions 2.3℃ higher than the ambient temperature. Diatoms dominated phytoplankton group after addition of nutrients at day 0. During the exponential growth period, Skeletonema costatum and Thalassiosira nordenskioldii showed higher growth rate in high temperature treatments than ambient temperature treatments. However, Nitzhchia spp. showed lower growth rate in high temperature treatments than ambient temperature treatments. Except Skeletonema costatum, the other major diatoms couldn’t grow well under high pCO2 treatments. Their cell abundance decreased with increasing pCO2. Especially, over 800 ppm level of pCO2en_US
dc.description.abstractthey rarely grew up. It means that high pCO2 environment may cause decrease of species diversity.en_US
