- Abstract
- In the present investigation, the microstructures and mechanical properties of Fe-Cr alloy prepared by single roll strip casting were studied. Optical microstructure showed subgrain boundaries inside large grains. Cracks were observed along the grain boundary. Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction study confirms the formation of chromium carbide at the grain boundary in the case of as cast alloy. Electron backscatter diffraction showed preferred orientation of grains in the as cast alloy. Carbides and undesired phases were not observed in heat treated alloy. Pores present in as cast samples expand after heat treatment process. Mechanical properties, like tensile strength, yield strength, elongation and hardness, of Fe-Cr single roll strip casting alloys were improved after heat treatment.
