Abstract
There is a growing concerning an electric vehicle (EV), hybrid-electric ve- hicle (HEV) and a fuel-cell vehicle due to air pollution and exhaustion of fossil fuels. Traditionally, a front-end rectifier is designed to charge the battery package from the grid line. It is critical for battery charger to operate at unity power factor while the efficiency of system is high and the size of converter is small. In this work, a new bidirectional topology for battery charger based on half- bridge converter has been introduced for low-power applications . And the imbalance voltage phenomenon on capacitors of half-bridge rectifier is elimi- nated completely. The proposed converter can obtain nearly unity power factor with large range of zero-switching switch. The efficiency of whole system is expected to be higher compared to same full-bridge topology due to less conduction and switching losses on power devices. The cost-effectiveness and small size are main advantages of this propounded converter. Simulation and experimental results supporting the proposed scheme are presented.
